about

A few years ago, one of my favourite songwriters asked me to collaborate with them - it was quid pro quo, after they recorded some vocals for a song of mine.

Oddly enough, there was no songwriting involved for either of us in this collaboration. They asked me if I would provide vocals to this cover they were producing.

I didn't ask why. I didn't care. I didn't even care that I didn't like the song, or the band, besides approving of THEIR cover of Pistol Grip Pump by Volume 10 (in principle). I was IN.

Later, Rae explained that they had been invited to contribute to a compilation of covers of songs that were included on the Tony Hawk 2 soundtrack?

So I taught myself the weird cadence these lyrics were written in, and chopped up some voice samples, and Rae put together a pounding house track with industrial elements, and it came out real nice. They also made their voice all scary, in contrast to me being a lil wimp.

That compilation never came out, but I've always been perversely proud of how much fun this cover of a truly grim and self-serious song turns out to be.

This month, I'm releasing the cover as my Rap Hundred in tribute to the new album and tour on which Danger Grove is embarking, with the support of Rae Spoon's label, Coax Records! They're touring their new album, bodiesofwater, while we launch "Want, For Nothing" on tour with Awards who in turn are sending off their second album, "Warm Computers."

Wow way to go everybody!
